Chronic Wounds 2

Lower Limb Wounds That Do Not Heal and Why They Need Attention
Wounds on the lower legs and feet that linger longer than expected are often considered chronic. These wounds may begin as small cuts, blisters, or areas of pressure, but fail to close due to underlying issues such as reduced circulation, swelling, or ongoing irritation. Over time, the skin and surrounding tissue can break down further, making healing more difficult.
In wound care, identifying the cause is just as important as treating the surface. Poor blood flow limits the oxygen needed for repair, while excess pressure or friction can keep the area from improving. Fluid buildup in the legs may also slow healing and increase the risk of skin damage.
Treatment focuses on creating the right conditions for recovery. This includes gentle cleansing, proper dressings, and reducing pressure on the affected area. Managing swelling and improving circulation are also important steps. Without addressing these factors, even well-treated wounds may persist.
Chronic wounds can worsen without clear warning signs. If a sore on your lower limb is not improving, appears larger, or shows signs of infection, reach out to us for care.
